# Monthly Mobility Scooter Battery Care Tips
Hey everyone, Bob here.
Taking proper care of your mobility scooter’s battery is the easiest way to ensure it lasts for years and doesn’t leave you stranded. Lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries need a little regular maintenance.
Here is my monthly routine for keeping your battery in top shape:
**1. Charge After Every Use**
Don’t wait for the battery to drain completely. It’s best practice to plug your scooter in after you use it for the day. Keeping the battery fully charged prevents capacity degradation over time.
**2. The Monthly Deep Charge**
Once a month, Janice and I leave our scooters plugged in for an extended 12 to 14-hour charge. This helps balance the battery cells and maintains the overall health of the charging system.
**3. Avoid Extreme Temperatures**
Batteries are sensitive to temperature extremes. Storing your scooter in a freezing garage or out in the baking sun will significantly shorten the battery’s lifespan. Try to store it in a climate-controlled area or at least out of direct weather.
**4. Keep the Terminals Clean**
Every few weeks, take a dry cloth and wipe down the top of the battery, specifically around the metal terminals. Dust and light corrosion can interfere with the electrical connection, so keeping it clean ensures optimal performance.
Take care of your battery, and it will take care of you!
Ride safe,
– Bob
